Covert listening devices are generally known as a bug or a wire. It consists of miniature radio transmitter and a microphone. It is generally used in police investigations. Mostly these devices use a radio transmitter but there are other device options available for carrying the signals. The radio frequencies can also be sent through building main wire system and can be collected outside or in main room.

Transmissions of a mobile or wireless device can also be monitored. It is also possible to capture the data from an ill functioned wireless computer network. Bugs come with different shapes and sizes. At the start the basic function of Covert listening devices was to relay the sound. But due to vast technology boost these are available to catch a television signals for commercial use. Now available these devices can be fit in pens and calculators and other daily used objects.

Some micro Covert listening devices are of the size of a small shirt buttons. Now it's possible to listen to an in car discussion by the Covert listening devices attached to the car tracking systems. But these devices are prohibited to use as it was appealed in court by the car owners. The technology has reached to a level where mobile phone microphones can be activated without even physical excess to the handset. This device is mostly used by the law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies to maintain law and order in the region. Actually the interface soft ware is manipulated or over written so that the calls that are done on infiltrated program are not shown. A special feature is to accept the incoming call without showing on the mobile screen interface. But this feature is only possible when the mobile is not already having any communication.

Covert listening devices have the ability to make the calls and receive the calls even when the mobile phone is switched off. Actually when the mobile phone is switched off it is only a temporary stand by status but there is a soft ware working back hand in a clock alarm wise and it rings the alarm when a call comes and it can be intercepted and also any call can be made.  These devices are not only used for communication but also that it's possible to use the blue tooth device for data transfer from a certain mobile hand set. A general user can not notice that the mobile phone is used by someone else but an observant person can notice that the battery of the hand set is consumed when he or she did not use the set.

Electronic Cigarettes - A Healthier Alternative To Smoking
There is a brand new invention that everyone who smokes should know about. It's called the electronic cigarette, also known as a smokeless cigarette or e-cigarette, and it is changing the legal landscape for cigarette smokers around the world. The patented Electronic Cigarette offers to effectively simulate the experience of smoking an actual cigarette, without any of the health or legal issues surrounding traditional cigarettes.

While Electronic cigarettes look, feel and taste much like traditional cigarettes, they function very differently. You see, electronic cigarettes do not actually burn any tobacco, but rather, when you inhale from an e-cigarette, you activate a "flow censor" which releases a water vapor containing nicotine, propylene glycol, and a scent that simulates the flavor of tobacco. All of which simply means that electronic cigarettes allow you to get your nicotine fix while avoiding all of the cancer causing agents found in traditional cigarettes such as tar, glue, hundreds of additives, and hydrocarbons.

In addition to being healthier than traditional cigarettes, and perhaps most importantly of all, is the fact that electronic cigarettes are completely legal. Because Electronic cigarettes do not involve tobacco, you can legally smoke them anywhere that traditional cigarettes are prohibited such as bars, restaurants, the work place, even on airplanes. Furthermore, electronic cigarettes allow you to smoke with no fears of inflicting harm on others due to nasty second hand smoke. The refillable cartridges come in a multitude of flavors as well as nicotine strengths. You can get regular, menthol, even apple and strawberry flavored cartridges and nicotine strengths come in full, medium, light, and none. While electronic cigarettes are technically a "smoking alternative" rather than a smoking cessation device, the range of nicotine strengths offers some obvious potential as an aid in the ones attempts to quit smoking and seems to be proving popular within that market.

The nice thing about electronic cigarettes as apposed to say, nicotine patches, is that e-cigarettes produce the same tactile sensation and oral fixation that smokers desire, while satisfying ones tobacco cravings as well. When you take a drag from n electronic cigarette you actually feel the your lungs fill with a warm tobacco flavored smoke and when you exhale the smoke billows out of your lungs just like regular smoking, however, as mentioned, that smoke is actually a much healthier water vapor that quickly evaporates and therefore does not offend anyone in the immediate vicinity. While electronic cigarettes have been around for a while in various incarnations, it has been recent advances in the technology as well as ever increasing restrictions against smoking that have propelled the e-cigarette into a new found popularity. If you are interested in a healthier alternative to smoking, or if you simply want to have the freedom to smoke wherever and whenever you want, an electronic cigarette might be the solution you've been looking for.

Pinhole Camera

Diposting oleh nangsa

The pinhole camera is one of the earliest cameras used in photography. It is an-odd looking thing because, unlike other cameras, it does not need to use lenses to take pictures. To explain, images are projected into the pinhole camera when light passes through a tiny hole in its box-like frame. According to Wikipedia.com, the small hole of the camera can focus light by directing it through a single point. This article will talk about its illustrious history.

Early Discoveries of The Ancient Greeks

Pinhole camera history in Wikipedia.com says that these simple devices were already used by the Greeks as early as 500 B.C. It was a common belief that people were able to see because the light rays were bouncing from the human eye. Wikipedia.com adds that, later on, they found out that seeing was actually an effect of light rays entering into the eye, rather than bouncing from it. This important realization led to a better understanding of how these work.

Ancient china

Mo Jing, a Mohist philosopher in 5th century-China, was said to have studied and experimented with phenomenona of images projected via a very small hole. Because of this, the Mohist philosopher was able to contribute to the development of the pinhole camera and the Burning Mirrors used by the ancient Mohists. Much of the pinhole camera history revolves around key events in Ancient China. In fact, Wikipedia.com also states that Shen Huo, a Chinese scientist during the Song Dynasty, was able to establish the key geometrical and quantitative concepts vital to the development of the pinhole camera today.

1000 to 1600 A.D.

The 10th century Muslim mathematician Ibn al-haytam is credited for inventing the first modern pinhole camera. Further advancements were made to the camera when the Muslim mathematician realized that a smaller hole produced a more sharper image.

In addition, more ideas and studies were done by the brilliant minds of Gemma Frisuis and Giambattista della Porta. These two published a paper explaining why images projected into the pinhole camera appeared upside down. Lynn Bryant, writing for a video surveillance website, said that the studies made by Gemma Frisuis' of a solar eclipse projected into a dark room was the first documented use of a pinhole camera in history.

1800s and Beyond

Lynn Bryant also says that Sir David Brewster, a Scottish scientist, was the first one to take pictures with the pinhole camera back in the 1850s. Lynn Bryant also says that this simple camera was not regarded as a popular medium of photography, not until the 1960s. It may be owing to the fact that the photographers during the period preferred to take pictures using a conventional camera, as opposed to the pinhole camera.

The pinhole camera history can be traced back to the Ancient Greeks, with advancements contributed by the Ancient Chinese and by brilliant scientists and philosophers in the late 20th century. Its history, like the histories of all things ingenious, is colorful, interesting, and absolutely eventful, and one that never fails to prove how great things can come from a simple idea.

Vehicle Tracking

GPS Vehicle Tracking Basics
A GPS Vehicle Tracking system supplies companies with a wealth of vital information to ensure safe, secure and faster on- time delivery services by reducing problems commonly associated with transporting goods. From running small scale fleet to operating international business operations, a system of commercial vehicle tracking is now considered essential technology for navigating 21st century transportation challenges. Known originally as the Navstar Global Positioning System.

The GPS (Global Positioning System) was first conceived at the Pentagon in 1973 in response to the demand for an error-proof satellite system. In 1978 the first operational GPS satellite was launched and by the mid-1990s the system was fully operational with 24 orbiting satellites continuously transmitting radio signals.

A GPS receiver is installed in a vehicle and a system set up to receive the information at the company's 'back office', distribution centre or warehouse in order to continuously track the exact location of each vehicle along their delivery route. To determine the exact position of each vehicle, the GPS receiver must be able to lock on to three satellite signals. The receiver will be able to calculate latitude, longitude, and altitude by measuring the difference between the time the signal was sent and the time it was received from all three satellites.

Live vehicle tracking and managing the GPS data is a two-part system which is customised to the specific needs of each individual business operation.

A company with a small fleet may only require a basic vehicle tracking device. This type of fleet tracking system shows location, route, stops, and speed of vehicle. Doubling up as a 'mobile worker solution' allows independent contractors, company executives and the general workforce to use the basic system as a way of keeping guaranteed accurate travel records of mileage and time. A large scale organisation operating a sizeable fleet or who require more detailed information, may be advised to install a real-time GPS vehicle tracking system. Designed for a time critical service to be applied to many vehicles at once, digital and satellite maps with location updates are provided every few minutes, with automatic email reports and a record of vehicle maintenance.

Designed for large fleet, an advanced real-time system, requiring a laptop computer or a PDA, can include additional features such as wireless communication, two-way text messaging, and automatic downloads. The GPS receiver can record information for over two months, track idle time via an ignition on/ off sensor and document actual stop locations.

Additional 'long haul' on-board automated DOT (Department of Transportation) reporting on engine diagnostics is also available.

There are systems that will continue to track a vehicle on demand, without waiting for historical data when it enters a non-reception area. This would be vital for emergency services, local authorities, police and security or a company that cannot afford to be without coverage due to signal loss.

With a GPS vehicle tracking system, vehicle arrival times are predicted more accurately, unauthorised usage can be reduced and/or eliminated, and notification sent when a driver speeds or departs from the designated route. Additional benefits are increased safety and security assistance for drivers losing direction or for vehicle breakdowns.

A Hands Free Covert Camcorder
Sunglasses with a hidden camera, yea right. They would definitely have to be some novelty item you would see in the back of a comic book for $19.95, right next to the x-ray glasses. That was my response when I first heard about this product. But curiosity got the best of me (I ordered the x-ray glasses too) and I ordered a pair. Wow, was I impressed. These things should have been marketed as a hands free camcorder, it would have been a better description and would have probably attracted more of a consumer base. Never again will I be frantically trying to get the camcorder out and miss that priceless moment on a family outing at the park or beach. With the touch of a button I can record what I am seeing and don't have to worry about getting the camera ready.

More than just a pair of polarized lenses, the hidden camera sunglasses contain not only a state of the art full color camera, capable of taking both still shots and audio/video recordings, but the built in DVR has a 4GB of flash memory and a micro SD (TF) card slot that can hold up to an additional 8GB of memory. The internal microphone records crystal clear audio from a range of up to two meters. An internal 550mAh rechargeable battery powers the whole unit with a 3.5 hour life and is charged through the USB port of your computer. Then, to make these spy sunglasses even more covert, they also contain a MP3 Player and headphones. The most appealing thing about the spy sunglasses is their simplicity. One button starts and stops the recording while the other three buttons switch the camera between still shots and video mode, snap a picture, and turn the camera on/off.

What surprises me the most is the amazing clarity of the images. The still photo resolution is 1280 x 960 while the video records in AVI format at 25FPS with a resolution of 680 x 480. The unit comes with everything you will need, an instruction manual; a USB power adapter; a USB charging cable; and a carrying case. For a price tag of well under $200.00, this unit is a must see, must have item.

Jammers

Diposting oleh nangsa

GPS was touted as the next best thing when it was invented by the United States military department way back in 1973. But nowadays quite a lot of people seem to disagree with this fact. Why else would GPS jammers become so popular otherwise? As the name suggests itself, GPS signal jammers are devices used to jam or block the GPS system from finding out the location.

Despite the fact that GPS has umpteen applications in civil, military and commercial use, many people seem to resent the fact that it can also take away their right to privacy. Nowadays companies are using GPS devices to monitor their vehicle fleets which are sent out for delivery of goods to the customers and other field activities. These GPS devices keep a tab on the whereabouts of the vehicle and the driver too. If you have been in such a position of constant surveillance, you would understand perfectly how uncomfortable it feels. Portable GPS jammers can come to your rescue in such situations. So a GPS signal jammer is actually a boon to people who are being pestered by the constant surveillance of their jealous lovers, nosey spouses or snooping bosses.

The portable GPS signal jammer creates a safety area of around 10 meters around the device, and this particular area is safe from the probing GPS signals. 10 meters is more than enough to cover a human or even a large vehicle, so portable GPS jammers are handy enough and allow you and your vehicle to move without getting in to the GPS monitoring. Since GPS has always been mainly used by the military to locate the position and movement of enemy aircrafts and to detect any unauthorized entry of aircrafts etc in to home territory, use of GPS jammers has been restricted for the public. Well, the civilian GPS signal jammers do have different radiofrequencies than the military used ones, but there are still many countries who are not exactly comfortable with the idea of widespread use of GPS jammers by the civilians.

The US military has raised concerns, even though the military and commercial GPS functions at different radio frequencies when compared to the civilian use. This is because these receivers used by the government actually at first require getting the C/A signal (civilian) before they can proceed to get the military used P(Y) signal. So in case you are planning to buy a GPS jammer, it would be better to check with the local laws first, to avoid running in to trouble later on.  If you want to get a GPS jammer for yourself, then it is very easy and cheap. Just buy a good one from one of the numerous online stores. But as mentioned earlier, it is better to check your local laws, because you would not want to have a rough time with the law enforcement folks after you get the GPS jammer shipped to your place.

what lies ahead,A look at the top five trends that will stand out in 2010
This decade has been one of the most crucial for the technology sector. It was feared that the start of the new millennium would be blighted by computers all over the world blanking out. Reason: computers were programmed to understand the binary database, which meant they would not recognise 2000. But it proved to be much ado about nothing and everything went well when the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2000.

Instead, now we have a thriving $60 billion (Rs 280,000 crore) Indian outsourcing industry, which got a big boost due to the Y2K problem. The industry registered a growth rate of 40-50 per cent in the first half of the decade.

Both Y2K and the global economic slowdown (that started in 2008) highlighted that technology has moved away from the purview of a select team of IT managers to the core of business.
In terms of technology, 2009 has been a crucial period for India, even as we wait for some of the regulatory hurdles to be cleared — such as 3G. It was a year when not only form factors morphed but also boundaries between gadgets blurred. As global warming hit the headlines, IT made its presence felt with Green IT initiatives kicking in. 2009 also saw tech jargon like cloud computing make business sense. Social networking sites impacted consumers and enterprises alike.

2010 will further enhance the usage of some of these technologies many of which will define the next decade. Business Standard talks about five top technology trends.

Wireless technologies: The wait continues

The wait for 3G continues with batted breath into 2010 as well, with the news coming in that the auction process has been delayed by a month. The auction is likely to happen in February. Meanwhile the reserve price for 3G spectrum has been fixed at Rs 3,500 crore, while that for WiMax services at Rs 1,750 crore .

So far, 3G services have already been launched by state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL), although neither has yet developed a major 3G customer base.
The delay has led to a debate within the industry that operators might just want to skip 3G and wait for 4G. Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G seems better equipped to quench the bandwidth and user experience thirst of the emerging breed of wireless applications. Along with 3G, WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) also got delayed. Experts hope that 2010 will be the year when these doubts would be laid to rest.

But despite the delay, with 500 million users the mobile subscriber base continues to grow and the telecom sector is briskly marching towards robust growth in 2010. According to a Morgan Stanley report, mobile internet users are set to outnumber those going online via desktop technology in the next five years.

Convergence: All in one

Carrying multiple gadgets for different purposes is so last decade. Today, a mobile phone can do the work of a computer, a computer can double up as a TV and a TV can be used to play out digital content from a gaming console or videos from a digital camera. In short, every gadget is pumped up to do more than what it is supposed to do.

But the biggest change in 2009 was that, in place of separate devices for information processing (computers), communication (telephones) and audio/visual reproduction (cameras, recorders, TVs and radios), we began using handheld devices that combine all of these functions and dwarf the capabilities of computers.

In the coming year get ready to experience smartphones with built-in projectors, cameras of 12 or more megapixel resolution, more storage memory on devices and a battery back-up of over 16 hours. Players that are positioning themselves as suppliers of converged devices include Samsung, Acer, Toshiba and Asus.

Let’s face it — a smartphone can do most of the things you can get from a briefcase full of devices. Convergence will be a consumer reality and thanks to gadget boundaries blurring, 2010 would witness consumers sending emails, uploading photos and videos, and posting status messages anywhere, anytime.

Green IT: Colour for 2010

Green IT, until now preached more than practised, will be a keen area of focus. Springboard Research in a recent survey pointed out that fewer than 10 per cent of enterprises in Asia have formally implemented a Green IT strategy.

However, a majority of enterprises including IT majors — TCS, Infosys, Wipro — have taken steps to implement Green IT at their end. Wipro, for instance, is planning to reduce its carbon footprint from the present 3.96 tonnes per employee to 2.5 tonnes in the next five to seven years. Global firms like IBM, Cisco and HP have already initiated steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

Analysts also say that the initial uptake for Green IT would be from a cost efficiency point. The study’s findings also indicate that the market also needs aggressive education as nearly 15 per cent of respondents claimed that they did not know how or where to begin with regard to Green IT.

Cloud Computing: Finally gets formed

Cloud Computing saw some good on-ground activity from many IT players and hence continued to be a buzz-word during 2009. Recession just gave it the desired push, with cost-saving features as the biggest agenda on CIOs’ lists.

Over the next five years, IDC expects spending on IT cloud services to grow almost threefold, reaching $42 billion by 2012. Spending on cloud computing will accelerate throughout the forecast period, capturing 25 per cent of IT spending growth in 2012.

Some of the concepts of cloud computing that saw momentum in terms of adoption in India were software-as-a-services (SaaS), Platform-as-a-services (PaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS).

Adoption among enterprises is still very low. But clearly a few IT services players are pegging this as the best approach to cater to small and medium enterprises (SME). TCS, which announced its foray into the SME segment with ITaaS over a year ago, has close to 60 customers. Bangalore-based Wipro has clearly chosen this route to increase its footprint among SMEs.

Meanwhile there are many IT firms that have started to implement cloud-based infrastructure for their internal requirements. Patni Computer Systems plans to have all its internal IT services hosted on the internet, with many B2C players by June 2010. This in turn will make the company save 30 per cent by way of capital expenditure and 30 per cent on space. But as Diptarup Chakraborti, principal analyst research at Gartner says, while cloud computing has the potential to change the landscape of IT outsourcing business, there still is a good amount of ambiguity surrounding this concept.

Social networking: Tweet your company status

Blame the recession or the need to cut costs, but Indian companies are latching on to social media to engage with end-users and clients. Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are no longer just the purview of GenX. 2009 saw baby steps being taken in the adoption of these sites by companies.

2010 could see the increased use of these sites for branding and marketing. The two joint CEOs of Wipro Technologies, Girish Paranjpe and Suresh Vaswani, are expected to become active on Twitter. S Ramadorai, vice-chairman of TCS, is already on Facebook, and a majority of IT firms including MindTree are on the professional networking site Linkedin. This despite the fact that, as per a recent Assocham survey, social networking sites cause 12.5 per cent loss of employee productivity in the corporate sector.

Apart from FMCG firms, those that traditionally focused on business-to-business (B2B) tools are also using business-to-consumer (B2C) tools like networking sites to gain attention. An instance is the IT sector. IT companies are not new to the virtual world, having made their presence felt on secondlife.com — a three-dimensional virtual world where registered users socialise and connect with one another. Firms like Infosys, Wipro and others are using these sites for brand promotion and also for marketing and sales.

Samsung Ships 40nm-class

Samsung Ships 40nm-class, 32-Gigabyte Memory Module for Server ApplicationsAccording to Soo-In Cho, president and general manager of Samsung Electronics Memory Division, “Samsung continues to set the pace in advanced memory for high-end server applications by offering 40nm-class 32GB memory modules to reach previously unattainable levels of system capacity. In just 10 months, Samsung has now secured the best competitive advantage with the broadest portfolio of 40nm-class DDR3 based memory solutions in the industry since the 40nm-class DRAM was first produced last July.“

Samsung is using the industries highest-density monolithic DDR3 device - a 40-nanometer (nm) class, four gigabit (Gb) DDR3 chip - as the building block for the new 32GB module. This comes just one year after the company announced its 50nm-class 2Gb based, 16GB registered dual inline memory module (RDIMM) last March.
Samsung Ships 40nm-class, 32-Gigabyte Memory Module for Server Applications
The highly-efficient 32GB RDIMM consists of 36 dual-die 40nm-class 4Gb DDR3 chips that can perform at equal or greater levels to a 40nm-based 16GB RDIMM with no increase in power consumption.

By equipping a dual CPU, two-way server with 32GB modules, a server system can have up to 384GB of memory. This allows for doubling the previously largest density of 192GBs per server with a power increase of less than five percent over that needed for a 16GB module-based system.
In addition, replacing 12 DRAM modules of 16GB density with just six 32GB modules would achieve a 192GB total density, while allowing the DRAM operating speed in a two-way server system to rise by 33 percent from 800 megabit per second (Mbps) to 1,066Mbps, as power is cut by 40 percent.

In high-performance, four-way servers using 16GB modules, one terabyte of DRAM would be commonplace.By using 32GB RDIMMs, Samsung is moving toward providing four-way servers with 2TB of DRAM each, a migration that it believes will spur introduction of diverse software and a broader scale of server applications.

Fusion Garage ends original JooJoo tablet, plans native apps
Fusion Garage chief Chandrashekar Rathakrishnan said on Thursday that the existing JooJoo tablet was being phased out. The one-time iPad rival was marked as "end of life" and would mark an end to the original platform, the CEO told e27. The switch to Android was going to lead to a "completely different" set of hardware.

He also acknowledged that the strategy of a web-only tablet originally conceived before the TechCrunch split hadn't worked. Apple's success was considered a lesson for Fusion Garage as it proved that native apps were still necessary for a tablet. The JooJoo was built with the idea that it would cost no more than $300 or as little as $200 since it wouldn't need storage, but the end product cost $500 after the decision to use an Intel Atom and NVIDIA Ion graphics forced the price upwards.

"I think it's very obvious with the advance of the iPad that while web remains probably the number one thing that we do with our devices, the lack of end-to-end connectivity means that there’s a need to have a hybrid, to have both a web and non-web experience," Rathakrishnan said. "And that's where we fell short with our product."

Sales were softer than expected and were primarily weak in the iPad's American home, but Asian and European sales were relatively strong. The executive wouldn't give out actual numbers, but they weren't as bad as what was "read on the Internet," he said.

The company has raised another $5 million and is hoping to avoid some of its early mistakes. Every device will have 3G with a unique inter-device communication method. The Singapore-based company also plans to sell through large retail chains and make carrier deals where its early sales were hampered by the online-only limit. Ad agencies, hospitals and transportation firms may also start carrying the hardware, albeit de-branded.

Galaxy Tab may reach AT&T with $50 premium
A leaked AT&T document courtesy of Engadget indicates the provider will offer the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet on November 21, priced at $650 off-contract. This is $50 dearer than what T-Mobile and Sprint charge on the same terms but is not yet official. The document also shows that AT&T will offer the same data plans as it does for Apple's iPad, including a $15-per-month, 250MB plan and a $25, 2GB plan.

What the AT&T Galaxy Tab will offer that both the T-Mobile or Verizon versions do not, however, is a preloaded Nook eReader app and AT&T's own Account Manager app that will let users activate the device and refill monthly credits. Owners of the Android-powered device from AT&T will also get access to the provider's network of hotspots around the country.

A formal announcement confirming these numbers and date is expected from AT&T in the near future.

NVIDIA: Google a 'little bit behind' Apple on tablets
NVIDIA chief Jen-Hsun Huang in a conference call tonight to discuss fiscal results was ready to note that Google had slipped back in tablet development compared to Apple. He thought that the work Google had done on optimizing Android for tablets and future smartphones was "really amazing" but mentioned twice that the company was a "little bit behind" in bringing it up to par with the iPad. The finished work, which would often focus on NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra chips, would help Google, NVIDIA and their partners catch up.

"Now it’s going to take something absolutely great to compete against the iPad and the iPhone, as we all know," Huang said. "Because both of those devices are quite amazing devices. And so it’s going to take something that is truly remarkable to compete against it. I think Andy and his team, and all of our engineers here working with them, and all of our partners around the world working on it, are going to absolutely deliver."

The CEO's remarks followed after much of the Google and NVIDIA tablet plans for the year had been delayed. Companies like Compal and ICD had been showing Android tablets using Tegra 2 hardware as early as January, but the first mainstream Android tablet didn't arrive until the Samsung Galaxy Tab began reaching Europe in September. NVIDIA's first significant Tegra 2 tablet, the Toshiba Folio 100, just began shipping last week.

The nearly year-long interval let Apple announce, ship and record high sales for the iPad, which as of the summer had 95.5 percent of the tablet market. Apple's position is expected to decline as the Galaxy Tab expands its reach and HTC, LG, Motorola and others launch Android tablets in and around CES, but their prospects aren't known until Google unveils its first tablet-ready version of Android, Honeycomb.

Kinect hacked to work with Mac
Developer Theo Watson has adapted an existing open-source library to the Mac, allowing Microsoft's Kinect motion-detector IR and webcam add-on for the XBox to work with OS X. His Vimeo-hosted video shows the project to be very much a "work in progress," but opens interesting possibilities for future Mac software and games that could leverage the Kinect connectivity.

Watson took the source code for Hector Martin's libfreenect and adapted it for Snow Leopard (tested on 10.6.3, may work with other versions), adding and modifying some libusb commands and tweaking transfer rates. The Kinect combines a traditional webcam with an infrared spotlight to better distinguish humans and movement from inanimate objects. In Watson's software, both the "convention" and "IR" views are shown side-by-side.

Kinect, Microsoft's motion gaming accessory has been hacked, mere days after its release.

Less than a week ago, DIY vendor Adafruit set a challenge, dubbed the Open Kinect challenge, which offered a $2,000 reward to whoever could hack the Kinect as desired. Adafruit detailed that the group or individual that created an open-source driver for the new accessory would be granted the prize money.

With the money on the table, hackers got to work, much to Microsoft's dismay, and in no time at all a hack surfaced.
