Apple is set to launch two all new iPhone handsets in September with the eagerly awaited iPhone 5 to land boasting an all new form factor alongside a second, lower speced iPhone sibling, new reports have suggested.
The reports, which come courtesy of 9to5Mac and quote an “iPhone source that has been reliable in the past”, claim Apple is planning to launch two new iPhone handsets this autumn with the high-end iPhone 5 to be joined by an entry level device set to challenge the masses of the mid-range Android handsets currently available.Looking to close the gap on Google’s current domination of all corners of the mobile market, the new reports claim Apple is readying a new iPhone that will be of the “low-end variety that will address the cheap Android market” whilst the expected iPhone 5 will be “high-end device and will be an all new design.”
Whilst the current iPhone 4 retails for more than $600 in the US, £510 in the UK, new reports hint at the new low-end iPhone sporting a minimalist $229 (£144) price tag alongside a slower CPU and lower-res camera than the existing Apple handset.
Joining the reported two new iPhones at Apple’s September event will be a revamped iPod Touch which according to 9to5Mac’s source “will get updated in September as well.”
Previous rumours have suggested Apple will launch two new iPhone handsets in September as well as a potential, iPad 3 device that could be known as the iPad 2 Plus or iPad HD.
